I have several years experience as translator and proofreader, and started working as a full-time

self-employed freelance translator in July 2004.

Specialising in business, marketing, promotional materials

I was a small business owner in Japan for 10 years dealing with advertising, taxation, customer care, etc.

As a translator, I have experience of translating:

  • contracts, confidentiality agreements, bank statements, company regulations and other general financial and legal documents

  • business communications such as emails, minutes of meetings, reports etc.

  • press releases

  • newspaper & magazine articles (topics covering history, culture and society etc.)

  • websites, marketing surveys - questions, responses and reports

  • catalogue copy, calendar captions

  • official certification (i.e., company official details, family register, graduation certificates)

  • "environmental care," CSR and other company documents

I also check and proofread translations.

  • Japanese culture (studied Ikebana and tea ceremony)

  • photography and art (life-long interest, 2 years at photography college)

  • cookery -Japanese, vegetarian, (20 years)

  • fitness - aerobics, step, pilates etc., (10 years)

  • bird watching in Japan (6 years)

Professional Details

MA in Applied Translation Studies from Leeds University, Centre for Translation Studies

I am an associate member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. Please see their website for the ITI's 'code of conduct' which all members abide by.

I have professional indemnity insurance

Software available; TRADOS, wordfast, also MS Office and Adobe Reader.

Hardware; PC, fax, scanner.
