Translation Work ExperienceFreelance Translation and Proof-reading. In Japan I worked as the in-house translator and overseas student liaison at Kanoya National Sports University, translating their website as well as letters etc., from overseas students. On my return from Japan in 2000, I worked as a part-time freelance proofreader and translator, whilst studying for my BA and MA. Since completing my MA in 2004, I have been working full-time as a freelance translator. I work with a number of companies worldwide and handle a wide variety of materials and formats. Recent projects include newspaper and magazine articles for both for publication and informational purposes, other promotional materials such as press releases or company publicity information ("responsible care" document, company overview, in-house magazines etc), nutritional information, menus, marketing materials (survey questions and responses), etc. Recent proof reading includes academic journal articles and abstracts for academic papers (Senshū University, Tokyo) and MA/PhD dissertations (students of York and Leeds universities) and translation checking of software instructions, etc. I specialise in translation of marketing, promotional and advertising materials as well as arts and social sciences (linguistics, sociology, environment, education).
